One of the professional social networking sites, LinkedIn has achieved a milestone – 100 Million worldwide users – as it included nearly a million teachers, dozens of Elvis impersonators and one “martini whisperer” last week.
Launched in 2003, nearly it took nearly eight years for LinkedIn to reach this milestone. LikedIn topped the century after filing for an IPO. According to the recent blog post of the company, the website presently generates a million new users each and every week, i.e., around one per second.
Reported that LinkedIn has now been used by more than 200 countries, out of which 44 million users are from the United States and the rest 56 million from the other countries. LinkedIn says that its service is expanding with high speed in Brazil – grew by 428% in the last year. Apart from this, its service grew by 178% in Mexico, with the second-highest growth rate.
The Chief Executive of LinkedIn, Jeff Weiner in a company blog post stated that “This isn’t just a big milestone for us – it’s also an important one for all of our members.” He also said that LinkedIn is “changing people’s lives in meaningful and sustainable ways.” Presently, by generating an impressive 5.5 million views per month, LinkedIn is nearing a value of around $3 billion.
In addition to this, the company also announced the launching of a new service called “LinkedIn Today” (a news service). This service offers its members with news stories that are relevant and popular in their industry sector. It is expected that this news service will help the professionals using LinkedIn to stay ahead of developments within their industry and also highlight which news and developments are providing to be the most popular with professional peers.
