"Always use HTTPS”: New Twitter Security Feature

Twitter adds an option to always enable Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS), with the growing acumen to protect users from the stealing of passwords and other sensitive data from unsecured Wi-Fi networks by the hackers.
According to Twitter, if activated, users can avail an option to automatically connect to Twitter's service via HTTPS, which encrypts the communication between users' system and Twitter server.
Twitter Spokeswomen, Carolyn Penner said, “This will improve the security of your account and better protect your information if you’re using Twitter over an unsecured Internet connection, like a public Wi-Fi network, where someone may be able to eavesdrop on your site activity." She also added that Twitter is going to make HTTPS its default setting in future.
Every time you use unencrypted Wi-Fi, in a coffee shop or airport lounge for example, any users sitting nearby could be sidejacking you. If you're a Twitter user, turn this new option on today,” advises Brett Myroff, CEO of regional Sophos distributor, Sophos South Africa.
Twitter's new security option means that once you have logged in, all of your interaction with Twitter is encrypted automatically,” says Myroff.
Originally developed by Netscape in 1994, HTTPS has been in use by many financial services website for years. But with the broader trend across the web industry, Twitter also moved towards promoting HTTPS to its users. Previously, Google and Facebook launched HTTPS option in their user account settings.
