Google's New Initiative “+1” to be More Social

Today, the Internet Search Giant, Google is introducing its new social feature “+1 or plus one” to its search service. This significant feature is a one click button to let its users to recommend the sites and share those recommendations with their friends. It is said to be just like the Facebook's Like Button, but with more other features.
According to Rob Spiro, a Google Product Manager, “ Our goal at Google is to get you the most relevant results as quickly as possible... But relevance is about relationships as well as words on web pages. That's why we recently started to include more information from people you know -- stuff they've shared on Twitter, Flickr and other sites -- in Google search results.”
Initially, Plus One will be accessible to 2% of its US users, but soon users will be able to opt in, through Google's experimental search site. Plus One is going to appear as a small icon next to each search result and text ad. Logged-in users can share their recommendations with contacts if they like the website they have visited by clicking the +1 button through their Gmail address book, Google Reader and Buzz contacts and, eventually, Twitter contacts. Below links on Google.com's search results, a list of any friends who have clicked the +1 Button for that link will show up too.
Apart from this, Google claims that Plus One is a different function to Facebook's Like – it will also begin to influence the ranking of sites within search results listing. Social Networking has been recognized as the next generation of web services, hence, Plus One is going to add a lot to the users. To make users easily share content with their friends and the people familiar with the topic of discussion, Google is also planning to introduce YouTube video site and Picasa photo-sharing site with their social networking contacts.

It's called +1 -- the digital shorthand for 'this is pretty cool,'” Spiro said. “The beauty of +1's is their relevance -- you get the right recommendations (because they come from people who matter to you), at the right time (when you are actually looking for information about that topic) and in the right format (your search results).”
Google's spokeswoman Katie Watson said that apart from many strengths such as the most popular search engine and video site, Google has to face a lot of challenges including, “how to build relationships, sharing and identity into our products” and “how to stay nimble as we grow.” She also added that due to enormous opportunities in social networking and other areas, Google is going to invest a lot in the future.
