How to Attract Loyal Customers through Social Media

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn are the most popular sites in social media. But always a question that arises is can these social media networks really help small businesses to sell their brand/service more. Yes, they can as long as you follow certain strategies of social media. According to a recent survey, 44% of small businesses in the United States are depending more on social media than relying on traditional word of mouth procedure to help attract the loyal customers. The question is whether the small businesses are only active in social media networks or leveraging time and resources to get the most of their efforts.

Social media needs small businesses to establish goals and create a proper plan to promote their businesses. Nothing happens accidentally or by chance. Your brand/service needs to be popularized. Hence, establish goals as soon as possible and have open discussions within your community that what you are trying to achieve. Set the goal and accordingly create a well-thought plan, how to set up social networking accounts, and how to promote your business using them.
Never assume that “social media is a 'build it and they will come' type of endeavor”. There are evidences that business owners have initiated the social media process enthusiastically, but failed to achieve the goal. The reason is very simple, they have not taken the extra steps that need to promote the business. Say for example, the business owners should focus on the activities such as optimizing a website to encourage social sharing amongst visitors; integrating social media into an email marketing campaign; taking advantage of in-store display advertising; placing social icons EVERYWHERE (on-line); and considering investment in Facebook and YouTube ads.
Once your foundation is strong in social media following the above discussed points, focus on reaching the target audience. Every brand/service has a certain potential customers/community around it. To reach these community, you have to search them on on-line forums, Google Blog Search, Twitter and a lot more channels and become a part of these communities and build up a kind of brand awareness among them. Start with small and consistent communications with them; and invite conversations about a specific topic. If your content has created a buzz around the community, that attracts others to your conversation.
